Exhibition ‘The Colours of a Life: Charles-Henri Herrmann and Henri Karcher’ (Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays until 14.12)
08.12.2025 14:00 – 18:00
This exhibition presents more than 70 works, including paintings, lacquer works, collages and objects, which explore the artistic development of two important artists on the Alsatian scene. Both were born in Strasbourg and trained at the École des Arts Décoratifs. They continued their career in Paris before returning to Alsace and settling in Bischwiller in the 1980s. Their work, which moves between figuration and abstraction, is recognised by major galleries as far afield as New York. Herrmann draws inspiration from nature, the human body and everyday objects, developing an expressive, dynamic painting in which the spontaneity of gestures and vivid colours are essential. Karcher, on the other hand, is nourished by her experience in set design and restoration and develops a more fluid abstraction in which materials and textures play an essential role. Each work bears witness to their continuous search for light, matter, personal expression and the pursuit of creative freedom. This exhibition offers a unique opportunity to discover creations that combine emotion, sensitivity and artistic innovation.
