Eliza Doolittle, a flower girl, catches the eye of the linguist Henry Higgins on the street because of her coarse accent. He makes a bet with his friend Colonel Pickering: within six months, he intends to use his speech exercises to transform Eliza, a ‘street urchin’, into a lady of high society. Eliza accepts the offer and takes the plunge into high society. And after a few teething troubles, the experiment actually seems to be succeeding – were it not for love coming into the picture. A resounding success right from its Broadway premiere in 1956, ‘My Fair Lady’ is now one of the world’s best-known musicals, featuring catchy tunes such as ‘A Little Bit of Luck’ and “Mit ’nem kleinen Stückchen Glück” and “Ich hätt’ getanzt heut’ Nacht”, one of the world’s best-known musicals.
